The Urban Cottage Garden

On a busy urban street in west Edmonton, a couple and their sweet dog wanted to ditch their lawn for an English inspired cottage garden. Like many urban homes, their space started with nearly all lawn, with a few plants along the boundaries.

The design for their garden brought the planting into the middle of the space, creating a network of paths and outdoor rooms that are hugged on all sides by lush planting. The planting scheme focuses on pollinator friendly selections like salvia, foxgloves, daisies and roses that bloom in succession from spiring right through autumn.

To screen the neighbours, add shade and bring birds into the garden, two amur maple trees were introduced to the space, flanking the alfresco dining area between the garage and house.
