THE GARDENS
URBAN WOODLAND PERENNIAL GARDEN
A couple with a generous back yard wanted to park the lawnmower, and bring more wildlife into their space. We designed a woodland prairie dream, with rolling drifts of flowing ornamental grasses and blocks of vibrant perennials.
RETIREMEMT RETREAT IN THE CITY
With retirement in the near future, this couple wanted a space to relax and entertain without leaving home.
Their design focused on two main gathering areas: a fire pit, and a large, shading pergola structure. The planting is generous but still relatively low maintenance, with pops of zingy colour from spring through fall.
Several smaller trees were introduced to add a sense of intimacy and privacy to the space, while also providing dappled shade in the summer, and foliage colour in the fall.
URBAN COTTAGE GARDEN
On a busy urban street, a family and their sweet dog wanted to ditch their lawn for an English inspired cottage garden.
The design for their garden brought the planting into the middle of the space, creating a network of paths and outdoor rooms that are hugged on all sides by lush planting.
To screen the neighbours, add shade and bring birds into the garden, two Amur Maple trees were introduced to the space, flanking the new alfresco dining area between the garage and house.
POOL AND A POND GARDEN
These clients had only 3 requests: they wanted a pond, a small pool, and to pack in as many plants as possible. We designed a playful space with many areas to sit and be engulfed by the greenery on all sides.
An encasement feature was designed for an above ground pool for their children to play safely, while a large pond sits behind a bank of evergreens on the cooler side of the garden.
A PLACE FOR THE BIRDS
These clients love the sound of bird calls. Their design maximized the amount of trees in the space, added water, and used multiple layer of plants that provide shelter, food, and nesting for the birds in this neighbourhood. What started as a patch of compacted lawn is now a year-round bird watching paradise, where the clients can lounge and watch the birds swoop down to the water feature, and sing in the tree canopy above.
